November 2002
Wow!!! I
cannot believe it has been a year since Oz became part of our family. He’s been
such a fabulous friend who it seems has always been a part of our lives…
It has been an eventful year for our family…in August we relocated to Portland,
Oregon (a joyful return home for Mommy, a joyful new experience for Oz) .
I
was a little nervous about the 4 day road trip but he was a perfect traveling
companion…and he joyfully “marked” trees in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado,
Wyoming, Idaho and finally Oregon…it was a tough job but Oz was up to the task…
We are enjoying the much cooler weather and the multitude of outdoor
activities…Oz particularly loves to go out to the Oregon coast. Running and
splashing and getting sand all over EVERYTHING…he’s not too fond of the taste of
the Pacific Ocean though…however, the look on his face when he took a few gulps
was priceless…”YUCK”, “Snort, Snort”…
Winter will be here soon and I look forward to his first experience with the
strange white stuff that falls from the sky (snow)….the Golden I had growing up
used to chase it and try to catch it….I know Oz and he will chase darn near
anything (except a cat….he learned that lesson really quickly from his “brother”
Eliot the cat who smacked Oz on the nose a few times)…
He is such a happy, healthy boy….we thank Gold Ribbon for bringing us
together!!!
Hoss
is a happy go lucky 8 year
old who comes to us from the local shelter. Hoss is one of our
Golden Oldies. Named after the
"Ponderosa" brother, he's a big goofy boy at 89#. He could stand to lose
about 10 of those to be at his ideal weight. Watch for more as we get to
know him better.
09/23/01 and update on Hoss:
Hoss is a big, loveable
dog. He was a little nervous in the house when he first came here,
but is very comfortable now. We had a party over here last weekend and
Hoss was very comfortable being around lots of people. Hoss is not a
delicate dog, so I would not recommend him for families with babies or small
children. He wouldn't harm them on purpose, he is just not aware of his
size and weight relative to anything else! Everyone loved Hoss and
commented on how handsome he looked in his bright red scarf! The red
coordinated beautifully with his light blonde coat.
Hoss
is a good eater. He is not protective of his food bowl, and gladly
shares food with my other dogs. He is polite and does not beg from the
table when people are eating.
Hoss's two favorite
activities are napping, and playing fetch with the tennis ball. He will
play fetch until we are both worn out! When Hoss naps, he lays out
spread eagle on the floor, all 4 legs in opposite directions! Hoss also
likes to go for walks. He is very good on the leash and walks good with
or without another dog along for company!
Hoss likes to put his head
in your lap and just be petted and scratched. Sometimes, if you scratch
his back just right, he will do a little dance for you, he really enjoys those
back scratches! Hoss would fit in great with a family where someone is
home during the day, or if there are other dogs home during the day to keep
him company. I know he's looking forward to hooking up with that perfect
family out there!
Update 10/15/01:
Hoss is as
happy go lucky as ever. Sometimes I call him "Happy" or "Happy Hossy"
because he always has that goofy smile on his face.
Hoss really
looks forward to his daily walk. He gets very excited when the leash comes
off the hook and onto his collar! Hoss loves mealtime too, he is not a
picky eater. He will eat any dog food or treat that comes his way.
Hoss has
proven to be trustworthy in the house with the other two dogs. When I come home
from work, Hoss is always the first one at the door to greet me. At night
he settles down at the foot of the bed, and sleeps well through the night.
When Hoss is ready to go out in the morning, he will come by and lick my nose to
let me know it's time to get up.
Hoss was not
afraid during our recent thunderstorm, it didn't seem to phase him at all.
He's not too vocal either. Unless his ball rolls under the bed and he's
not able to get to it. He will bark a couple of times to get some help
with the ball. Once he's got his ball, he's happy again!
Fuzzy, cuddly,sweet,
loving, happy,playful, curious,
smart, mischievious, starting to get into everything, shoe stealing, tissue
shredding, icecube eating, paws in the water bowl while she drinks, I'm going
to get in the chair when you get out to
keep your seat warm for you... Who are
we talking about? Ana (Anastasia) of
course! This 12-week old
bundle of laughs and sharp teeth keeps us on alert. We say this as she takes
her morning nap(the first of many
for the day) with her foster brother whom she
has worn out already.
Ana is, well,I've pretty much said it already, she is your typical fun-loving puppy.
She is always wanting to play and go
outside to see the kids. She likes to
shop at Home Depot, and PetsMart, and
anything or place where she can be
loved and get attention. She has a wonderful temperment and personality. Every
morning she likes to be put up onto my son's
bed where she proceeds to give him
kisses all over to wake him up!
Ana
is doing very well with her housebreaking, only afew
accidents since we've had her. She has a great appetite and always sits and
takes her treats gently from our hand! Ana is still getting used to her
crate and not sleeping quite thru the
night yet. She wakes us 1-2 times to
go potty, and I'm glad she wakes us
for that reason! This will gradually stop soon and
she will snooze all night, and so will
we. Ana also does fine if we babygate
her in our kitchen with her foster brothers while we are out front or go for a
bike ride. She loves all her toys and has special liking for peanut butter
stuffed in her sterilzed
bone which keeps her busy for along time.
She is the perfect pup for just about anyone wanting a sweet & cuddly
playmate.
