Blunder
#12-157 Blunder, update 12/24
Weight: 48 pounds
AVAILABLE
His name should have been “Rascal,” because that’s what
he is: a little Rascal!
This smartie has energy to burn and needs someone who will run with him or do
dog sports with him or just spend a lot of hours giving him lots and lots of
attention. If he doesn’t get enough
action, well, that little Rascal part shines through.
Nothing bad, mind you, just the normal rascally stuff: shredding paper,
picking up clothes and proudly prancing around the house with his “prizes,”
digging holes in the garden, chasing squirrels, tearing thru the house playing
keep away with the other dogs… but he is so cute you can’t stay mad at him.
Blunder aka Rascal is pretty young and it shows. He pulls on his lead, likes to
go full speed ahead, and still likes to tear things up.
But he is a so lovable and willing to learn!
He now sits for treats and waits his turn.
He goes in his crate and stays there for up to 5 hours so far.
He responds to SETTLE and STOP! and CALM DOWN. He lets me drag sticks and
balls and clothes from his mouth without fussing or growling. And at night, he
likes to crawl in my lap and watch T.V.
My heart just melts & I forget all about
whatever commotion he may have caused earlier in the day.
Blunder
hasn’t been around in-house cats.
We have seen outdoor cats on walks, though, and he is curious but not crazy.
However, he loves to chase, so I have a feeling that if they ran, he
would go after them. But I do think
he could be taught to play nice with a dog-savvy cat.
Children are another unknown. He
has met older children on walks and does fine, but so far has not been around
any toddlers.
Blunder needs time to get used to new situations and new dogs. Slow intros are
mandatory! His social skills are lacking, and other dogs might take his
“blundering” ways as obnoxious. Once he feels safe and knows the other dogs, he
wants to play nonstop—but again, just as with rowdy children, the play needs to
be monitored, and if it escalates too quickly, it needs to be shut down.
There have been a couple of scuffles at my house—but it all it takes to
cool things off is a prompt, loud STOP or DOWN and time out in separate rooms.
In a few minutes, both pups are saying, “Can we play now Mom?
Please please please!”
Blunder is still learning what is “too much”...too much running, too much
playing, too much ripping up the toys. Once he gets that figured out he will be
perfect. He is really a diamond in the rough and needs a strong leader to show
him the way. And what a great size
at just 48 pounds: big enough for fun and small enough for cuddle time!
Blunder, age 2
Weight: 43 pounds [needs to gain, though!]
Remember the song
“Honey Bun” from the musical “South Pacific”?
Honey Bun may be “only sixty inches high,” but “every inch is packed with
dynamite”! Little Blunder has something in common with Honey Bun, all right –
he’s a honey, his hair is blond (if not curly), and every one of his 43 pounds
is packed with charm, and yes, a little TNT too! “Pulls like a freight train,”
said his GRR “chauffeur.” “Has no training or manners, but is so cute. Loves to
countersurf. Takes treats well. Is a bundle of energy!”
Blunder’s foster
family collected their skinny houseguest last week, and they’re busy beefing him
up a little with five small meals a day. Good nutrition might just turn this
already supercharged guy into a total rocket ship – but then again, with more
groceries under his belt, he’ll likely be able to calm down a bit and think
about something other than his next meal.
Meanwhile, he’s
“bouncy and hops right into people’s laps and curls up! Jumps when he gets
excited but he is responding to DOWN commands already. He really wants to play
and tries to engage my older Golden who has arthritis and really doesn’t play.
He would love a companion dog. He’s VERY energetic - this dog needs to run!
He pulls on the leash but is smart and will learn.”
Blunder is having
a gay old time exploring his new house. That includes putting his feet up on the
counter to peek at what might be up there, grabbing shoes and carrying them
around, and bouncing up onto the sofa. Once he finally wears himself out,
though, he just loves to cuddle right up and be calm. He loves to be rubbed and
petted, and when you rub certain spots on his chest and neck, he will close his
eyes in bliss even while sitting up. So cute!
For such a skinny
stray, he seems to be in great health – just needs to recover from hookworms
(being treated) and put on a little padding. He’s outgoing and lovable, and
DEFINITELY needs a home where he’ll get exercise and plenty of play.
