Murphy
Murphy, age 11
Meet Murphy, an 11-year-old pup with the sweetest personality that one could
ever imagine. He and his brother,
9-year-old Jackson, came to GRR from an owner who was experiencing a major
lifestyle change and could no longer care for these gorgeous guys.
Not only was Murphy intact, as well as heartworm positive, but he had a
couple of large cysts on either side of his spine that called for surgical
intervention. Murphy was neutered,
underwent surgery for the cyst removal, and has already completed his heartworm
treatment; all that’s left is a post-treatment check-up to give him the
all-clear.

This fine, handsome
fellow, with a fantastic typically Golden disposition, weighs in at around 70
pounds of joy. He is gentle,
friendly, and obedient, and obviously was loved by his surrendering family.

Murphy does have a
thyroid condition for which he takes medication daily. On our walks, he is so
happy to meet and greet every dog and person who comes our way.
He has not shown any interest in squirrels or birds—but, having grown up
with a gorgeous tiger cat, he’s a certified cat lover.
As a young dog he was
hit by a car and both hind legs
were broken. At first it was
doubtful that he would ever walk again, but his original owner spent a lot of
time with him, building the strength in his legs, so that now he walks very
nicely, with a bit of a limp that, at times, isn’t even evident. He does have
some occasional pain and stiffness related to his unfortunate accident, but for
that he just takes meloxicam as needed.
Murphy is a great eater,
cleans his bowl in record time. He
isn’t food protective or aggressive as he allows us to pet him, even on the
head, while he is eating; nor has he bothered our other Golden, Abby, while she
is eating. He is in every way a
gentleman. Sometimes he’s a little
pushy when Abby is at the water bowl and Murphy wants a drink, and usually has
to be first in the house after a walk to be sure to get his share of whatever
treat is coming his way. But he
does it so nicely.
From the very first
night we had him, he slept through the night without disturbing anybody.
He has a bed he occasionally will actually sleep in, but he moves
throughout the night, just around the bedroom, never wandering into the rest of
the house. Sometimes he even sleeps
right next to Abby on her side of the bed.
Nobody seems to mind.
Murphy has captured the
hearts of his foster family so he may be considered a successfully placed GRR
Golden.
