Milkdud is having a great time with his new brother Teddy. He is wearing our Teddy out, which is what we hoped for! They spend time chasing each other in the yard and exchanging toys. Milkdud does like to go in the pool, but shows his sophistication by using the steps instead of jumping in. And speaking of jumping, he is quite the leaper. Flying over the top of the couch is no problem for him! (We are working on breaking him of this.)
Milkdud has met the cat, but the jury is still out on whether he can be trusted to be alone with her.
He is still pretty skinny but is a good eater. We are trying to get him to slow down when he eats. He loves to go for walks and is very good on the leash. He is quite comical; the first time we put him in the SUV to go to the park he “played dead,” which made it difficult for us to pick him up. We think he was afraid that we were maybe taking him to the shelter and that we didn't want him! However, after walking through the park he was ready, willing, and able to jump into the SUV.
On the first night we found out that there was no need to kennel Milkdud. He found a spot on our bed along with Teddy and got quite comfortable. Just wish we would have gotten that king-size bed. Milkdud is loved by all and he knows it!
Updated 9/23/11 Lucky Milkdud is already in a foster-to-adopt home, but be on the lookout for more like him!
He’s no dud! However, Milkdud is every bit as sweet as his name—and, appropriately, has a milk-chocolate-colored whiskers and just a dusting of chocolate fur on his otherwise caramel-colored ears. And also like the edible variety of Milkdud, he’s the perfect “accompaniment” for hanging out watching a movie at home. Or maybe starring in his own movie—because, like all young Goldens he is extremely entertaining! This great little 50-pounder came to us as a stray; seems like he must have belonged to someone once, though, because he was already fixed… and healthy, and heartworm negative. Yay!
After a quick check-up at the clinic, Milkdud moved in with his new family, where things went swimmingly—in the literal sense. The family’s own Golden Teddy Bear loves the water, and after a bit of coaxing, Milkdud decided it would be safe for him to take a dip, too. Wow, it was fun! and he will get even more comfortable in the water with time. The two pooches chased and chased after one another—loads of play bows, lots of stealing things from each other, but all in good fun.
Foster mom reported the next day: “Well, we tried to put him in the crate last night but we are wimps. The crying was too hard to listen to, so both dogs slept on the bed last night. I just wish we had a king-size bed. I hope to get some pictures of them swimming… just took this one after they finished playing for thirty minutes. They are conked out!”
