Good dogs come in small packages…
Example: 53-pound Takota. And as you can see, this petite red-headed sweetie looks even smaller next to his pal, 90+-pound Herman (whose GRR name was “Goliath”)!
Takota is a typical “velcro” Golden – wherever you are, he’s there, too. He’s a little bit shy, but of course he’s still getting adjusted to moving away from his first family. He walks great on leash, a real gentleman. Sleeps through the night… mostly! His first night in foster care, he woke up his foster mom and dad at 4:30 AM:
We were jolted awake with him standing on our bed, hovering over us with a tennis ball in his mouth... REALLY? You really wanna play ball at 4:30 AM???? Come on now! We of course couldn’t help but laugh at him! Told him to go back to bed, to which he very nicely responded by lying back down on the floor by my side of the bed. Needless to say, this boy loves his tennis balls! Loves to fetch and brings the ball back to throw again. Usually walks around with one in his mouth. Maybe as he gets more relaxed with us, he won’t carry one around as much. We’ll see.
Takota began having the occasional seizure about a year and a half ago, and started taking phenobarbital at that time. Our vet suggests cutting down on his dose of pheno… and if that seems to be working well, cutting it down yet again in a month or two. In foster care so far, he hasn’t had any problems. Mostly he’s just a real doll who will make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a sweet companion.
