Trinket, age 3

Just as cute and dainty as her name, three-time mom Trinket came to GRR when her owner could no longer care for her. That owner got her as a young adult dog—at which point Trinket had already suffered damage to one of her eyes. (When our vet examined her, he found that the eye just isn’t there; the socket is simply filled with connective tissue. No treatment is needed, and it doesn’t seem to bother Trinket a bit.)
We know that Trinket was an all-outdoors Country Girl before coming to GRR, but she sure has taken to the indoor life! She’s had no accidents at all indoors, and when Mom isn’t home, she has access to the entire house and hasn’t done a bit of damage. She’s a calm girl—no chewing or counter-surfing for her. (She DOES like to chew on bones, though, but she’ll give them right up if you ask herto.) Another surprise has been her leash manners—she doesn’t pull at all and walks right alongside.
Arriving straight from the shelter, she was rough-coated and a little smelly, but after a good bath she’s as sweet smelling as can be and shines like a new penny. And she LOVES to be brushed!!
“She seems to like children and is gentle around them,” says her foster mom. “She’s sweet around other dogs but basically indifferent, just a little timid at first when meeting dogs she doesn't know. She’s more interested in people. She has absolutely no interest in retrieving or playing fetch! She does, however, like to climb into the plastic kiddie pool to cool off. She likes to sleep in the bed VERY close to me. She’s a little snuggle bug!”
Trinket is VERY sweet. She’s a mellow, sedate girl who likes to be petted and seems happiest when she’s on the couch next to her person. The only traces of a “farm dog” her foster mom can see are in Trinket’s occasional atttempts at “herding”: “She will walk alongside me and try to steer me in the direction she wants me to go. It’s pretty cute! She is a GREAT dog who deserves a home with LOTS of love to give. She doesn't seem to require a lot of activity but does need a lot of love. Because she’s on the smaller side and very gentle, she would most likely do well with an older couple in particular.”
