Durango
Updated 2/22/11
This wonderful guy grew up as a well-loved indoor dog, and it shows. He’s 100% housebroken, totally trustworthy when left alone, and great with other dogs—totally non-aggressive and loves to play (though his size can be a bit intimidating for them! At 92 pounds, he’s around 20 pounds too chubby, but the scale is slowly moving in the right direction). He’s cat friendly, too; he’ll chase the kitties if they run, but if they don’t run from him, he doesn’t have much interest in them at all. For his age and weight, he’s really peppy—he loves and needs regular play and walks.
When he first moved in with us, Durango was a little insecure—understandable, since he’d just left the only home he’d known since the age of 8 weeks. He didn’t want to go outside unless we came out and kept him company. He’s relaxing now, but he is still a “Velcro” Golden who wants to be right where you are.
His former owner told us that Durango had had the occasional mild seizure over the past year (the seizures were brief, and he bounced right back afterwards), but certainly he hasn’t had one in the past three weeks. We do have him on high-quality food now, and he’s getting more exercise, so maybe that’s helping. GRR’s vet says “just wait and see” – so that’s what we’re doing.
All in all, Durango is simply a great dog. Not food possessive, not toy possessive, sweet & affectionate, friendly to kids, adults, other dogs… some family will be VERY lucky to welcome this Golden into their home!
