Harper

You just have to wonder how someone could give up such a handsome dog as Harper. His rugged good looks would capture anyone’s attention. He’s strong as can be, yet extremely gentle. He has a huge block head and a sturdy body, all in perfect proportion.
Harper has a way of putting his head down when he meets someone new to let them know that he means no harm. He’s a little shy at first, and doesn’t normally make eye contact on the first meeting. But if you catch a glimpse of his gorgeous amber eyes, you will be surprised at how gentle they look.
He knows how to “sit” and will go “down” as well, but then he usually rolls right over onto his back for a belly rub. He would lie for hours in the “belly rub” position if someone… anyone… would rub his tummy.
We’re still getting to know him, but he’s already made a good impression on everyone who has met him. He gets along well with other dogs, as you can see in the picture with his two housemates. He DID get a bit irritated when another dog tried to steal his food (who wouldn’t?), but he warned her off with just a growl. (He doesn’t care if people pick up or move his food bowl, though.) He gets along fine with cats, too.
He’s perfectly housetrained and respectful of the furniture. He sleeps throughout the night on the floor right next to the bed. He follows everyone around from room to room, and is so close that we almost trip over him at times.
It’s also clear already that Harper can be pretty headstrong and stubborn! He stands right up against the door and will try to get out when someone leaves the house. A child probably wouldn’t be able to keep him from escaping. He does pretty well on a leash, but he will pull if there’s something he really wants to see or smell.
Harper will be going through heartworm treatment, so there will be some time to smooth out the rough edges. He’ll likely be the perfect gentleman by the time he’s ready for his forever home!
