Howdy, y’all.  There’s a new dog in town and it’s… ME!  I’m a big, strapping 75-pound young-at-heart handsome boy.  How my ex-owners could have left me at the shelter is a mystery to me, but I’m determined to make the best of the situation.  As a matter of fact, I’m going to do whatever it takes to be the best dog ever.

For one thing, I’m really smart and learn quickly.  I like going for rides in the car.  I’m housebroken, so you don’t have to worry about leaving me alone in the house.  I get along with other dogs just fine because I don’t feel like I have to prove anything.  There are some advantages to being a “mature” dog.  I may not be your man if you want one of those crazy kids who will chase a ball for hours, but if you’re into the easygoing dogs, then I’m your guy.  I’ll lie quietly for hours while you pet me or brush me.

We do have to talk about this heartworm issue and the thing with my ears.  My ears used to itch me a lot, but I think with the right diet and maybe a few ear drops, they’ll be as good as new.  And I don’t know how those little heartworms got into my heart (yuck!), but Gold Ribbon Rescue is going to make sure I get the treatment that I need.

I have to ask you a few questions now: Do you like giving baths?  How about brushing?  I sure do feel good once I get a bath and get brushed, so I would be really thankful if you like to do those.  We could probably even take a bath together.  Wouldn’t that be fun?  You’re going to end up all wet anyway, because the first thing I’m going to do when I get out of the tub is SHAKE!  Then I’m going to run around like a banshee cuz it feels so good.  And then I’m going to come over to you and give you lots of loving.

I saved the best for last.  (See… I’m a patient kind of guy.) I can do something I’ve never seen another Golden Retriever do.  I can sit up on my haunches like a bear!  All you have to do is offer me a little treat and I’ll sit right up for you.  I’m quite the entertainer.  I’ll see if my foster folks can get a picture of me doing it and put it on this website.  You won’t be able to resist me!

I know there are lots of new experiences in store for me, so I’ll keep you updated once I learn some new things.  Like I said earlier, I’m a fast learner, so I should have an update SOON.  Don’t go anywhere!
