Linkin
Updated 10/15/10
Say hello to sweet, happy Linkin. Linkin’s story is like so many: he had a loving home from puppyhood until 6 years old when a change in life’s circumstances no longer allowed them to keep him. A true Golden, he has adjusted well to his life in foster care.
He has three Golden friends in his foster home, and 1-year-old Aspen is by far his favorite. Don’t let the graying face fool you! He can keep up with Aspen’s energy level just fine! In fact, he’s the best playmate of all (and he’s the oldest dog in the house!). All of his Golden foster siblings loved him from the moment he walked in the door. He shares toys, plays politely, and respects their space.
You’d never know he’s been diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia because he handles 4- to 5-mile walks every day with energy to spare. And he loves nothing more than to be let off leash in a big play area so he can run, and run, and run! On pretty days, his foster dad takes him to a downtown dog park. Link is in heaven. He chases tennis balls, greets every dog with a wagging tail, AND can hop right up in the middle of a picnic table. He’d probably love to swim, too. Hip problems…obviously Linkin hasn’t been given the news.
Speaking of downtown, Link goes to work with his foster dad everyday. He’s become a calm car rider and even sits patiently in the car while his foster dad has breakfast on the way to work. Initially a gregarious greeter (wanted to hug everyone he saw), he’s learning to meet and greet calmly since so many people come and go in the office. It takes too much energy to greet everyone with zeal.
If his foster family had room for dog number 4, Linkin would be staying. He doesn’t need crating (sleeps soundly all night beside the bed), is allowed loose in the house when home alone (no problems), is perfectly housebroken, gets along with all animals (cats and rabbits included), is a perfect gentleman during mealtime (no begging), and is a smart, loving boy.
He LOVES a leash and it’s been a perfect training tool. He’s learned to stay away from the other dogs’ food bowls, to come when called, and to get off the bed. The leash and a yummy treat have worked wonders in refining his skills.
