Meadow

Updated 7/19/10

Early, early on a warm July morning, the office staff of a local animal hospital arrived at work, opened the front door, started on the usual daily routine – and found quite a surprise waiting for them in the little exercise yard behind the building! Sometime during the night, a plump red Golden had been abandoned there. And that’s how sweet Meadow came to GRR. Needless to say, all we know about her past is what we can guess from her behavior. What we do know for sure is that Meadow is one of the happiest and most delightful Goldens this foster Mom has ever seen.

She wiggles, wags, skips and smiles. She loves to give and receive affection. She is quite social and loves to play with children and other dogs. Meadow does have a best friend now: Mr. Duck, a stuffed toy that she carries with her wherever she goes. She likes to fetch Duck, parade around the house with him, watch movies with him, and sleep with him by her side.

Meadow came to us a bit tubby. She weighs about 80 pounds and should weigh 60. With a healthy diet and regular exercise, she should be back to her perfect weight in no time. Being in training is tough, though! On Meadow's first long walk around Town Lake, she skipped and wagged and had a great time until she plopped down and refused to go forward after two miles of our three-mile route. I think she had decided she had had enough—but I think she'll get more energetic soon!

Meadow is completely house-trained and very well-mannered indoors. She also seems to know several commands: sit, down, shake, off and come. Meadow is going to make a fantastic family member and companion for some lucky person!
