Roman

Updated 7/3/10

It was a dark and stormy night and someone wanted me to get involved in a new case. They call me Roman, but I do business as Max – Private Eye, Ace Investigator. (It says so on my card, right next to the paw print.)

I was working this case in the country about a lost dog. Not much excitement I thought, but I was low on dog biscuits and needed the work. As I was investigating the case, I started to realize there was more going on than just a “lost dog.” My nose smelled a rat; this dog was not lost, but kidnapped! I was so hot on the trail that I lost track of just where I was, but that didn’t deter me … until one night, as I was getting closer to cracking the case wide open, I was taken from behind and dumped in the pokey in some big burg or other. I woke up not remembering much – like where home was and who did this to me?

Luckily, a stranger who knew I needed assistance posted bail—a good thing, too, since the cops aren’t always happy to see a gumshoe.

I started putting my private eye skills to work to get into a better situation. My contacts eventually understood where I wanted to go (GRR), but I had trouble telling them much else. I wish more humans were bilingual in dog-speak.

Well, GRR realized my wonderful talents and saw just how handsome I am, so they decided to help me with starting a new life. However, they quickly found out I have “heartworms.” Never heard of ‘em, but after I did a little reading up I thought,  “No wonder I got tired so fast while working my investigation.” I already got started on the treatment, so for the time being I have to stop my work as a private eye. However, I am staying with a great foster daddy (I won’t give out his name, that’s a secret) who is letting me keep my investigative skills honed, for instance I get to find lost balls and stuffed animals. I also get to explore new dogs and people; but I have to do everything quietly. My foster daddy says that’s how private investigators work, especially when they are on The HW Case. I guess he’s right! But as long as I can do my work, I’m happy. And boy, am I a happy guy.

My foster daddy says my biggest case yet is coming up soon; we are looking for a new forever home for me. And since I am so lovable, friendly, quiet, and good-mannered, he says I should be able to solve this case in no time at all.
